A new style of GPS (global positioning satellite) tracking devices are now available. For parents who want to know where their teenagers are at any given time, these devices are a life saver. Some systems use special cell phones which the teenagers can carry. Other systems can be installed in the cars teenagers drive. You can track the location of your teen from your computer.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radio-navigation system formed of 24 orbiting satellites and their ground stations. Launched and maintained by the U.S. Department of Defense, these satellites send a stream of signals to the earth's surface enabling a GPS receiver to calculate accurate positions within about 10 feet or less.
The technology is becoming accessible to virtually everyone, allowing boaters, hikers, truckers, and even farmers to pinpoint their location anywhere in the world. Is this an invasion of privacy? (There are some devices small enough to plug into the cigarette lighter.) It can be, but I prefer to think of it as a safety device.
There are several ways these tracking devices can bring you peace of mind.
1) Discover if your teenager went where he said he was going. (If he/she knows the GPS is installed, you bet they will.)
2) Lets you know if the person is speeding.
3) It can record every stop over one minute.
4) Shows how many miles have been traveled and the route taken.
5) Shows time spent at each location.
6) Allows you to better enforce curfews.
7) If a child was abducted, they are easier to trace.
