Finally some companies are beginning to recognize that video games can be combined with a purpose beyond entertainment. The Serious Games Movement started in 2002 when the U.S. Army released “America’s Army.” This is an online game that can be downloaded for free. By playing this game you can experience what it is like to be in the Army. Video games are now being created for areas such as education, health, science, government and even relief efforts. Funding is becoming available to create more of these serious games. Some universities are permitting students to produce these games for academic credit.
