An American archeological team has discovered a burial chamber in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt. The discovery was found 12 feet down by a team of archeologist from Memphis, Tennessee. It appears that five mummies have been located with decorated sarcophogi. These may be at least 3,000 years old. The burial site appears to have been hastily prepared which may mean that the mummies are not kings. They may be royal family members or royal members of the court. This site is being called KV63.

The project is being sponsored by the University of Memphis through the Institute of Egyptian Art and Archeology. Dr. Otto Schaden is the head of the team. He says there are already plans for excavation in place. The site will be slowly cleared to keep things intact. This was an accidental discovery.

The last major archeological discovery in this area was in 1922 when King Tut's tomb was discovered.
