How to Set Goals

What is a goal? It is a statement of what you want to achieve. It can be a character trait, a specific grade, an object or a specific amount of money. Setting goals is very easy, just decide what you want. If you are committed to achieving it, it will happen. How do you become committed?

This first thing you must do is write it down. This shows the Universe that you are ready to begin working on your goal. Then create an affirmation. To learn how to write affirmations, click here.

Now create a list of steps that you need to take to reach your goal. For example, if you want to make an A in math find out what is keeping you from an A now. Do you do your homework? Do you turn in your homework? Do you not understand how to work the math problems? Maybe you need a math tutor. Once you find out what steps you need to take, begin to take them. You can also write affirmations for the steps you need to take.

Start by writing small goals, goals that can be reached within a few months. If you have an F in math, maybe you need to start affirming for a C. Then work up to an A. Once you see that goals can be reached, you need to plan harder goals.

Always think positively. If you doubt that you can reach your goal, that doubt can cancel all of the good work your affirmations do. You must have faith. Once you are certain down deep inside that you can attain your goal, it will happen.

When you are writing your goals be specific. State your goal exactly as you want it and then begin to visualize it happening. (Visualize means to see it in your imagination.) Some people like to put time limits on their goals. Sometimes this may work, but I think it is better to let your subconscious mind set the dates. Just be sure you are saying "now" in all of your affirmations. The language must be specific and positive. Do not use the word wish or want. It is always "I am now," or "I now have."

Once you are certain of the goals you want, write the affirmations and visualize everyday. If you do them sporatically, you may reach your goal eventually but it will take much longer. Review them everyday. What you want may change. When you reach a goal immediately begin thinking about your next goal. Even daily goals can be created. If I have some projects I need to do during the day, if I write them down I will get them done. If I don't it probably won't get done.

Researchers studied a group of young men from Harvard. One half of the class was asked to write down their Ten-year goals. The other half did not. When researchers went back to these men over ten years later, the half that wrote down their goals had all reached them! Some had even forgotten what they had written down, but reached the goals anyway. They were also more successful than the half of the class that wrote nothing down.

Your life is in your control if you know what to do. Set goals, write affirmations, visualize, think positively and have faith. And remember, Words are powerful!
