An affirmation is using words to change your reality.
Affirmations are positive statements that are said or written daily. They are designed to get rid of negative thoughts and replace them with positive phrases. If your brain is like a computer, affirmations are the software. If you only put in negative thoughts that is the software your brain will run. Put in positive statements and that is what you will get.
These statements are designed to help you attain a trait you want or get rid of a trait you don't want. They can also be used to attain material things. Words are powerful. When you lean to use them to benefit you, the sky is the limit. You can have just about anything you want from life. Basically, what you focus on expands. The more you think certain thoughts, the more likely they are to come true. Affirmations can be thought of as prayers. They are wishes that you affirm will come true. Doing affirmations creates a magnetic flow of energy. It pulls things to you. If you believe they work, they will. One note of caution--don't use affirmations to try to control other people. That will backfire and actually hurt you. Click here to learn more about the power of words.
Affirmations are slightly more powerful if they are written down. Writing down a statement has the same amount of power as hearing them ten times. But there is a power attached to saying words aloud. So when I really want something, I do both.
Start with something small. I taught a class on this concept, and most students decided to try to raise their grades. So I helped them write the affirmations. One month later, every student who had followed through by writing the affirmations every day, was successful. You can't just do it once, and have things happen. It takes a committment to do this every day.
Sample Affirmations:
I have raised by science grade to a B.
I am now making the A/B honor roll.
I am now making As in all of my classes.
I love myself.
I am popular and make friends easily.
I am outgoing and fun to be with.
One student raised his social studies grade but noticed that his math grade fell. When this happens you have a belief that you can't make good grades in everything at the same time. Basically, on some level, you do not think you are smart. So if something like this happens you write an affirmation about that too! "I am smart. I am making at least Bs in all of my classes."
All affirmations must be written with positive statements. Start small to quickly learn that affirmations work, then begin to affirm for larger things. What college do you wish to attend? Tips to Make Affirmations Work Quickly:
1. Write each affirmation at least 10 times a day. (100 is even better and more effective, but you can start with 10.)
2. Write your affirmations just before going to bed. Then your subconscious mind will work while you sleep. The next best time to write is early in the morning when you first wake up.
3. Say the affirmations out loud. Notice how the vibrations of the words themselves feel in your body.
4. Make a tape of your affirmations and listen to it as you fall asleep.
5. Say the affirmations in front of a mirror. Smile as you say them. Convince yourself they are working. (If you are saying, "I love myself. I approve of myself," keep practicing in front of the mirror until you actually do feel love and approval.)
6. Do this everyday until your affirmations happen. The more you believe and trust they will happen, the faster they will.
